At its IFA 2015 press conference today, Acer unveiled a number of new devices, including a gaming smartphone and the Predator 8 gaming tablet. The company has also launched a few new entry to mid-range smartphones.
First up, let’s talk about the Acer Predator 8 GT-810 gaming tablet. The gaming tablet features a really impressive design that is targeted at the gamers. There are four front-facing Dolby Audio Predator Quadio speakers on the device at all the four corners, claimed to deliver virtual surround sound to allow for a really immersive gaming experience. It includes TacSense tech as well, providing tactile feedback during gameplay.
The Predator 8 GT-810 features an 8-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1200 WUXGA resolution, giving it a pixel density of 283 pixels per inch. The display features Predator ColorBlast tech, boasting of 100% NTSC color gamut coverage. It is powered by the Intel Atom x7 SoC with Intel HD Graphics and offers 2×2 MIMO wireless technology and Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n support. You get 64GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 128GB thanks to the microSD card slot on offer. Despite the gaming-oriented design, the tablet is still quite thin at just 8.7mm and weighs 350 grams. Acer has announced that the Predator 8 tablet will be coming to North America in November with a retail price of $300. Starting November 6, the tablet will be sold exclusively by NewEgg for two weeks. The pricing for Europe has been announced to be €349.
The Predator 8 wasn’t the only gamer-centric device Acer announced at IFA today. It also revealed the new Predator 6 gaming smartphone. Acer did not reveal complete details about the Predator 6 today, so we will have to wait longer for the complete spec-sheet to be released. For now, we know that the smartphone will feature a display around the 6-inch mark, a deca-core MediaTek SoC, 4GB of RAM, and a 21MP primary camera. The Predator 6 also shares the same quad-speaker setup as the Predator 8 tablet and offers controller-level haptic feedback during gameplay.
Now let’s talk about the new budget devices that Acer launched today. The Acer Liquid Z630 and the Z630S smartphones feature 5.5-inch 720p HD IPS displays, 8MP rear cameras, and a huge 4,000mAh capacity battery. Both devices are powered by a quad-core 1.3 GHz MediaTek Cortex-A53 SoC with the Mali-T720 GPU. The Z630 will be offered with 8/16GB storage options and 1 or 2GB RAM. The Z630S on the other hand comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Both run on Android Lollipop software with Acer’s custom Android skin on top.
The Z530 comes with a smaller 5.0-inch 720p HD IPS display, but packs the same internals as the Z630. LTE connectivity is onboard as well. A Z530S will be offered as well, packing the same 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage as the Z630S.
The company also launched the budget Z330 smartphone, running on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It shares a similar design to the Z530 but offers a smaller 4.5-inch IPS display with 480 x 854 FWVGA resolution. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 MSM8909 SoC, paired with 1GB of RAM. A variant with the Snapdragon 210 MSM8209 SoC and 2MP front-facing camera instead of 5MP will be released as well, dubbed the Z320. Rear camera on both the models features 5MP resolution.
