Movado to launch Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches this fall

Android Wear 2.0 officially launched just under a month ago, and today a major Swiss watchmaker, Movado, announced it will be jumping on the bandwagon. It stated it will use Google’s wearable device OS as the basis for a new series of smartwatches, the Movado Connect, which will have a starting price of $495.

There are not a lot of details yet on these new devices, including what hardware specs they will have. Movado’s press release did say that it will launch five men styles of the Movado Connect. They will include “five unique customizable dials” that are based on the classic Museum dial that are featured on many of Movado’s standard watches. In addition, each of these dials will have three to four customizable elements that it says will offer their owners a number of different “complications, backgrounds, and watch hands”. It sounds like that these Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches will give owners a ton of choices in terms of their outward appearance.

The Movado Connect smartwatches will launch this fall, but we will be able to see early versions later this month. The company said they will be shown as part of the 2017 Baselworld watch trade show in Switzerland starting on March 23. Today’s press release also stated that two fashion brands that partner with the overall Movado Group, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss, will also partner with Google and launch their own collections this fall as well. Details on those products have yet to be revealed.

As we said, Android Wear 2.0 launched in early February. At the moment, just two smartwatches, the LG Watch Sport and Watch Style, are offering the OS out of the box, but more are on the way in the near future from Huawei, Polar, Casio and more. A number of older devices that run Android Wear 1.5 are scheduled to get software updates to the new 2.0 version, starting sometime later this month.
